Description
No. 20 High Street is a house located at the corner of Chapel Lane, which now features a 20th-century shop front. The main front block dates from the 17th century, while the rear block was added in the mid-19th century. The exterior is roughcast over limestone rubble and brick, with a steep-pitched double-Roman tile roof on the 17th-century section and an artificial slate gambrel roof on the rear block. Each section has a one-unit plan.
The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range on the left side facing Chapel Lane. The 17th-century block features horizontal windows, a 19th-century three-light casement window on the first floor, and a blocked window on the ground floor. The 19th-century block includes a flush six-panel door on the far left and stopped cyma-moulded two-light mullioned windows with plate-glass sashes above. There is a similar window on each floor to the right, which is also blocked. The rear gable end is constructed of English-bond brick. The interior has not been inspected.
