Description
Corbett Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, constructed of rubble stone with a stone tiled roof. The south end of the roof has been rebuilt, and there is an ashlar ridge stack. The building is one-and-a-half storeys high, divided into three sections, each originally containing one window range. The right-hand section, which shares a two-window range with Combe Cottage, has a dormer gable with a timber, leaded casement above a fine early 16th century two-light chamfered timber mullion window with traceried heads. The recessed central section has a three-light timber, leaded casement within a dormer gable, and an iron opening light above a large two-light leaded timber casement. The left-hand side has a large two-light timber, leaded casement with an iron opening light over a three-light timber window with a central sash. A fine 16th century studded oak plank door leads to a through passage on the right-hand side. The central room internally features an exceptional stone moulded cambered-arched fireplace with a coved stone shelf above, and two heavily moulded beams. In the upper, south-end room, there is an unmoulded Tudor-arched stone fireplace on the north wall.
