Description

This circular monument, located in the churchyard about 8 metres north of the tower of the Church of St Peter, dates from the early 19th century. Made of limestone, it features a slightly weathered circular top supported by ten moulded ogee arches, with a diameter of approximately 1.5 metres. The exact purpose of the monument is unknown, but it may have served as a seat and is thought to have been erected for Richard Colt Hoare, with the work attributed to John Carter. The ogee arches are similar to those added to the Gothic Cottage by John Carter in 1806.
