Description

East Farmhouse is a C17 farmhouse, substantially rebuilt in the early 19th century. It is constructed of stucco rubble stone, with a hipped thatched roof and brick stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three windows on its front elevation. A central door, with six fielded panels in a panelled reveal, features a reeded architrave and a trellised tent porch. There are 16-pane sash windows either side of the door. Three 16-pane sashes are located on the first floor. The left return has a 12-pane sash window to the right, two 3-light casements to the left, two 2-light segmental-headed casements, and a square-headed 2-light casement on the first floor. There is evidence of blocked C17 mullioned windows and raised eaves, indicating a thorough rebuild of a C17 house in the early C19. The right return is in English garden wall bond brick, with a 4-pane and a 12-pane sash window, and small casements. A straight joint runs through the centre of the wall. A single-storey outhouse made of chalk blocks and flint is attached to the rear of the wing. The interior retains 19th-century joinery, including 6-panelled doors with moulded architraves and window shutters.
