Description
This building is a pair of cottages, now functioning as a house, dating from around 1800, with a later 19th-century cottage built under the same roof. The structure is made of coursed chalk rubble with brick quoins and dressings, and the 19th-century cottage to the left is constructed in English bond brick. It features a half-hipped thatch roof with brick stacks at the left end and ridge. The building has a single-unit plan and stands two storeys tall, presenting a two-window east front. This front has brick flat arches over two-light wood casements, a blocked doorway to the earlier house on the right, and a plank door to the left. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is known to have changed little since the 19th century. The earlier cottage is a significant example of a single-unit dwelling, which was extended by a similar cottage in the later 19th century. This building is a complete and little altered example of the vernacular tradition and has group value with the listed building next door, No 17.
