Description
Minster Cottage, possibly from the 17th century and refronted in the 18th century, is located on Minster Street. This two-storey building features colour-washed stucco with a projecting plinth, a narrow moulded cornice, a parapet, and coping, topped by an old tile roof. The front has four bays, with the upper windows being 2-light casements and the ground floor featuring tripartite glazing bar sashes. A six-panelled door is positioned in the second bay from the left, with panelled reveals and a wide plain frame that has panelled pilasters. This doorcase is supported by double scroll moulded brackets and is topped with a small broken cornice and an open pediment hood that has a segmental soffit. Flanking the doorcase are narrow windows and Victorian footscrapers. The interior, although altered, still retains an early 19th-century staircase with a turned rail leading to the bottom stair, as well as an earlier central chimney stack.
