Description
The Church of St Osmund is a Roman Catholic church located on Exeter Street, built between 1847 and 1848 by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin. The church features coursed flint with stone dressings, a southwest tower topped with a pyramid slate roof, and a large gable over the nave, also with a slate roof. The north aisle, which has a lower gable, was added in 1894 by D Webb. Inside, the church has arcades with low foliate capitals. The altar in the south chapel was designed by Pugin, and there is an elaborate font decorated with fleur-de-lys in quatrefoils. The stained glass includes east and two south windows made by Pugin and crafted by Hardman of Birmingham, with one of the south windows inscribed "ex voto" by Pugin and dated 1850. The church is part of a group with Nos 90 to 92 (consecutive) St Osmund's Church & School and Nos 95 & 96.
