Description
The Old Bell House is an inn that has been converted into a detached house, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It features square-panelled timber framing, with some sections rebuilt in English garden wall bond brick, and has a triple ridge tiled roof with a brick stack. Originally designed with a baffle entry, the building is two storeys high and has three windows across its front.
The entrance includes a six-panelled door set in a beaded architrave, topped with a gabled canopy. To the right of the door is a 2-light casement window, while to the left are two 2-light casements and a blocked doorway. On the first floor, there are three 2-light casements.
A wing on the right side of the house features double planked segmental-headed doorways with a single casement window above, and the gable end facing the road has 2-light segmental-headed casements. Attached to the left are single and two-storey extensions that include 2-light casements and a pantiled roof. The rear of the building has planked doors and casements, with timber framing visible on the first floor. The interior was not accessible during the survey in July 1986.
