Description
Spicers Close is a farmhouse located in East Coulston, dating from the mid-18th century, with a south extension added in 1799, likely for William Long. The building is constructed of English bond brick and features a half-hipped tiled roof, with slate on the rear pitch and brick stacks. It is two stories tall and has five windows. A 20th-century porch and door are situated to the left of the center, with two 2-light casements; one is in a blocked doorway, and there is a 12-pane sash to the right and a 2-light casement to the left of the porch. The first floor includes a brick dentilled plat band, two 2-light casements on the left side, and three 6-pane sashes on the right. The right return features a sash window on the ground floor, a 6-pane sash on the first floor, and a 2-light casement along with a datestone in the attic. The rear of the building has a lateral stack to the left, a planked door, and 2-light casements to the right, with the rear roof pitch covered in Welsh slate. Attached to the left is a brick stable and tack-room dated 1725, with a late 19th-century lean-to porch on the west gable end. The interior includes chamfered beams and a blocked fireplace.
