Description
The western boundary wall and return section with a doorway to the street of the Council House dates from the early 18th century. The wall is constructed of old red brick on a flint base, with large stone blocks that may be of earlier origin. It is very tall in the first section, made of 18th-century red brick with stone coping, and continues along the north side of the garden at the back. This is followed by a lower stretch of flint rubble featuring red brick bands and coping. The short return section to the street ends with a plain stone pier. The brickwork is later, but it includes a possibly reset 18th-century entrance with a rusticated chamfered stone surround, voussoirs, a keystone, and a moulded pediment above. The fielded panel door is also likely to have been reset.
