Description
Allengrove Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that was altered in the 19th century. It is constructed from rubble stone and has a stone slate roof with end stacks and a ridge stack. The building is 2½ storeys high and originally featured a double front. The eaves gablets and an additional bay to the left, which also has a gablet, were added or rebuilt in the 19th century, with this work done in squared rubble stone.
The original range has 19th-century casement pairs set in frames that were once ovolo-moulded mullion windows, complete with hoodmoulds. The central door is located in a 19th-century gabled porch made of brick and timber. The left bay mirrors the gablet and features a first-floor casement pair in an unmoulded surround, along with a ground-floor door and casement pair that have a timber lintel. The stonework indicates that only the upper floors are from the 19th century.
Attached to the left is a Bridgwater-tiled outbuilding. To the right, there is a lower addition that has two ground-floor windows and one above, all covered with Bridgwater tiles and featuring an end stack. The rear of the farmhouse includes a gabled projection with an ovolo-moulded 2-light window on each floor, and a similar window on the first floor of the main range to the left. There is also a beaded first-floor 2-light window to the right. The property’s deeds are said to date back to 1553.
