Description
The railed enclosure and Rumboll memorial are located against the south wall of the tower of the Church of St. John in Grimstead. This mid-19th century structure is designed in a late 18th century style. It features a limestone chest tomb set within a cast-iron railed enclosure. The railings are plain and topped with finials, standing on a low, weathered stone plinth. The chest tomb includes a plinth, and the main panels on either side are adorned with nicely carved urns and floral decorations surrounding the inscription. The tomb has a corniced top and commemorates Susanna Rumboll, who died in 1853.
