Description

Nos. 2 and 3 Silver Street are a pair of late 17th and early 18th century houses, forming part of a row that extends from the north end of Town Bridge into Market Street. The buildings were partly altered in the 19th century. They are three storeys high, constructed of coursed rubble with freestone dressings. Ashlar quoins are set into the walls at the points of curvature of the front facade. The roofs are tiled and feature three gables, running down to the eaves between them, with square chimney stacks. Each gable contains a pair of mullioned windows with moulded surrounds. A stringcourse runs under the gable window of No. 3. Five sash windows are present on the first floor; glazing bars are intact only in No. 3. A modern shop front with a ground-floor stringcourse is on the right-hand side of No. 2. No. 3 has a 19th-century shop front, featuring a moulded entablature above a round-headed doorway with a keystone to the left, and a wooden shop window divided into three with a plain fascia to the right.

Nos. 1 to 3 form a group and have group value.
