Description
The gateway to the Church of St Thomas's was built around 1868, likely designed and constructed by the local architect William Smith. It features a large stone structure with three steps leading up to a pointed archway. The archway has mouldings that die at the impost, along with a beaded and stilted label. Above the archway is a gablet that obscures a shield. The sides of the gateway are supported by weathered buttresses, which also have gablets at ground level. Inside the recess of the gateway, there is a carved panel depicting the Good Shepherd above the gates. The gates themselves are made of cast iron and include typical Trowbridge wrought and plate iron ornamentation in the form of fern leaves.
