Description
This is a late 18th-century front applied to a timber-framed building dating from the 16th or 17th century. It is three storeys high, with a cellar, and stands on a projecting plinth. The front is constructed of ashlar Bath stone, with panelled stringcourses marking the first and second floors. A small moulded cornice and blocking course top the facade. The slate roof is hipped.
The front is divided into two sections by a projecting pier that rises through all three storeys, with a matching pier on the right-hand side. The stringcourses break forward over the piers. The left-hand section features a centred arched yard entrance flanked by small, semi-circular headed passage entries. These are detailed with projecting imposts and keystones. Above are two recessed sash windows with four panes per sash, block sills, and keystones. The right-hand section has two recessed sashes, each with three panes, block sills, and keystones.
Some original timber framing is visible internally, within the side court. The mews buildings within the court are stuccoed and originally had four windows on the first floor, three on the ground floor, and two doors - one a five-panel door, the other a four-panel door, both with three-pane fanlights. This section has been modernised, but three ground-floor windows remain, grouped together. The centre window is a four-pane sash, while the outer windows are three-pane sashes, all within moulded flush frames.
