Description
The Forge House is a farmhouse dating from around 1700, constructed from squared rubble stone and topped with a stone slate roof featuring end stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a five-window front, which includes 2-light cyma-moulded recessed mullion windows. The central door is set within a bolection moulded surround. There are moulded bands at the eaves and below the roofline, and the windows are fitted with leaded lights.
The door is sheltered by a squared rubble stone porch, added between 1830 and 1840 by James Thomson. This porch has a hipped roof with a low central gable and a ball finial. The front of the porch is tripartite, supported by piers with plain capitals, and features a depressed arch with a keystone at the centre, flanked by side-lights.
