Description
Chez Nous and The Porch is a farmhouse dating from the 17th to 18th century, constructed of rubble stone with a stone slate roof, featuring an end stack and a ridge stack. The building is two storeys high and has a four-window range, with pairs of casement windows that have timber lintels on either side of the door. The door itself is set in a squared rubble porch, built around 1830 to 1840, which has a coped gable and a depressed-arched entry, along with triple-arched side openings. There are also 18th-century bead-moulded mullion windows with hoodmoulds in the right bay, with a three-light window below and a two-light window above. Additionally, there are one-and-a-half storey additions at each end; the left side features a ground floor casement pair, while the right side has garage doors. The design for the porch was created by James Thomson and is noted in his unpublished 1845 History of Alderton on page 72.
