Description
The School House, built in 1726 for the Rev. Roger Key, is a two-storey building located on the west side of Fittleton Main Street. It features a construction of brick laced flint with clunch banding at the gable end and is topped with a thatched roof. The building has five bays and a lobby entry plan, which includes a central studded door and porch. There are paired timber casement windows, and the thatch is half-hipped. At the rear, there is a lean-to extension that spans the full length of the building. To the left, there is a new schoolroom added in 1843, which was further extended in the 20th century, though this part is not of special interest. Inside, the layout includes a schoolroom designed for 10 boys to the right of the lobby entry, along with a parlour backroom and three to four bedrooms.
