Description

Bridge Farmhouse is a mid-17th century inn that has been converted into a detached house, with alterations and additions made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The front range, dating from the 18th century, is faced in ashlar and features a hipped Bridgewater tiled roof and stone stacks. The rear wing, originally timber-framed, has been rebuilt in English garden wall bond brick with a Welsh slate roof and three diagonally-set brick stacks, creating an L-plan structure.

The building is two stories high with five windows. The central entrance consists of double panelled doors flanked by unfluted columns with egg and dart capitals, leading to a fluted frieze and cornice. On either side of the entrance are two 12-pane sash windows. The central three bays of the façade project forward, with a moulded string course at the first floor level. There is a central blind window with a pediment, flanked by two sashes, the outer ones also featuring pediments. The frieze includes swags and half-pilasters for the central three bays, while pilasters extend to the sides, reaching up to the cornice and plain blocking course.

The right side of the building has a sash window and a blind window on both the ground and first floors. The left side has an attached lean-to shed. At the rear of the main range, there is a lean-to extension. The 17th-century wing at the back has a four-panelled door and 2-light casements on the east side, while the west side retains some timber framing and also has 2-light casements. The interior was not accessible during the survey in June 1986. The building was formerly known as the Apple Tree Inn.
