Group Of 5 Monuments In The Churchyard, 12 To 14 Metres North West Of Lychgate, Church Of The Holy Cross

A group of five chest tombs located in the churchyard, 12 to 14 meters north-west of the lychgate at the Church of the Holy Cross, dating from the late 18th century. They are made of limestone and are lettered from north to south and east to west.

The first tomb is unidentified and features two raised and fielded panels on each side with eroded lettering, a moulded plinth, and a cyma recta moulded slab. The second tomb belongs to the Rice family and has angle balusters, two inscription panels on each side separated by a fluted pilaster, with incised lettering in italic and Roman script on the south panels. It also has a moulded plinth, a fluted frieze to the cornice, and a cyma recta moulded slab.

The third tomb is unidentified and includes panelled angle pilasters, two raised and fielded panels on each side, with the north panels shaped like shields and lozenge panels on the ends. It has a moulded plinth and a cyma recta moulded slab. The fourth tomb is also unidentified, featuring panelled angle pilasters, two raised and fielded panels on each side, with the south panels shaped like shields and lozenge panels on the ends. It has a moulded plinth and a cyma recta moulded slab, although the north side was collapsing and the slab was fragmenting at the time of resurvey in June 1986.

The fifth tomb is unidentified and has angle balusters with raised and fielded panels on the sides and ends, along with a moulded plinth and a cyma recta moulded slab.
