Description
The Old Rectory is a private house that was originally built between 1812 and 1827 for Reverend Francis Astley, incorporating parts of a timber-framed building from around 1636. The structure is made of brick and has slate roofs. It stands two storeys tall with a five-bay facade, featuring a central bay that has a two-storey bow containing the entrance. The windows are twelve-pane sashes with finely gauged brick lintels. The building has a dentilled cornice and a parapet. On the south side, there is a longer return facade with five bays, which is extended by an additional two bays that are slightly set back. All the sashes on this side also have a dentilled cornice, and the roofs are hipped. The earlier timber-framed building had a two-bay lobby entry plan. The interior has not been seen, but there are panelled shutters on the windows.
