Description
Ashley Leigh is a house built in the late 18th century and early 19th century, constructed from ashlar and some rubble stone, featuring a Bridgwater-tiled main range. The building has two storeys. The main range, primarily ashlar fronted and dating from around 1820-1830, has a rubble stone west end that may be older, all incorporated under an overall moulded cornice and parapet. It has coped gables, end wall stacks, and a ridge stack situated between the two parts.
The ashlar section consists of a two-window range with 12-pane sash windows, paired on the left side of each floor, and a single window on the first floor right above a 6-pane Regency style door that has a hood supported by brackets. The floors are framed by raised strips at the angles and across at the platband, with a first-floor sill course and cornice below. The west section features a one-window range with an upper triple window of 8-pane sashes, where the centre light is taller. The ground floor has a similar arrangement with a door flanked by 8-pane lights.
At the east end, there is an ashlar, stone-tiled range with a coped gable, which appears to have been a schoolroom or chapel. This single-storey section has a blocked centre door accessed by stone steps, with a 12-pane sash window on each side. The east end has a coped gable, a 12-pane sash, and a blocked 2-light gable window.
To the rear of the main range is an early 19th-century ashlar structure that was originally a pair of houses, featuring a slate mansard roof, coped gables, and end-wall and ridge stacks. This two-storey building has a three-window range of 12-pane sashes, with a raised band and sill course. The upper floor has three sashes, while the ground floor has two sashes and two doors that alternate, with the doors also featuring hoods on brackets. One of the doors on the left is blocked.
