Description
The Gisford monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 2 meters east of the north-east angle of the vestry of the Church of St. Thomas. This monument dates from the mid to later 18th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. It features two plaques on the north side, which are framed in rococo style. The tomb has fielded angle piers adorned with husk drops, as well as a moulded base and cornice that includes a pulvinated frieze. The earliest decipherable inscription on the monument commemorates W. Gisford, who died in 1771.
