Description

The Cottage is a semi-detached cottage that dates back to the 16th century, with remodelling in the late 17th century and rebuilding and heightening of the front in the late 18th century. It is constructed of Flemish stretcher bond brick and features a thatched roof with a brick stack. The cottage has an outshut and is two stories tall with a three-window front. The stable door has a thatched canopy, and on either side are two 2-light casements with segmental heads and shutters. The first floor has three 2-light casements. The right side of the cottage has one 2-light casement and one single casement, along with a 20th-century fixed window on the first floor. The brick stack shows toothing. The rear includes a 20th-century rebuilt outshut and 20th-century eyebrow dormers.

Inside, there is a 17th-century ceiling beam with ogee stops, a planked door with strap hinges, and a chimney located in the center of the three bays. The cottage shares a similar history with the adjacent Vine Cottage, as it was originally open to the roof and timber-framed in the 16th century, possibly featuring a chimney, a 17th-century ceiling, and a stone stack, followed by remodelling in the late 18th century.
