Description

A row of four cottages dating to the 1730s. Nos. 19a and 20 have brick fronts, while Nos. 20 and 21 are colourwashed stone, all with stone slate roofs. Each cottage is single-storey with an attic and has a single bay. The cottages feature various 20th-century doors, four-pane sash windows, and 20th-century replacement windows. They have gabled dormers. No. 22 has had its original door replaced with a window and is now merged with No. 23. These cottages are listed for their historical interest, as they were part of a row of seven houses built to create votes, a matter of considerable discussion during the 1774 election dispute. They stand immediately outside the walls of the Saxon Burgh.
