Description
Zion Hill Chapel is a Congregational chapel built in 1842, which is now no longer in use. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a Welsh slate roof. The design is in an early 13th-century style and includes a nave with a gallery above the entrance at the south end. The south front is gabled and has a central gabled porch with stepped coping and octagonal pinnacles. It features double pointed planked doors with a quatrefoil above, flanked by two-light plate tracery windows. The ground floor has additional two-light plate tracery windows, and the gallery has three stepped lancets at the center of the first floor, also with a quatrefoil above. The stepped coped verge is adorned with pilasters that rise to the octagonal corner pinnacles. The left and right sides of the chapel have two pairs of lancets with hoodmoulds and buttresses in between. The north end includes a gabled vestry with a pair of lancets on either side and three stepped lancets above, with corner pilasters extending to pinnacles on the gable's stepped verge. Inside, there is a gallery with a panelled front supported by two cast-iron columns, and the north end retains a reredos and reading desk, although all pews have been removed. The entrance vestibule features a pair of stone staircases with cast-iron handrails leading to the gallery, alongside pointed double doors that open into the nave. The chapel is situated prominently on a hill, overlooking the Nadder Valley.
