Description

This is a late 17th-century house, with additions from the early 19th century, located on St John's Street in Malmesbury. Originally a two-room house built at a right angle to the street, it now incorporates two smaller houses to the rear. The exterior is limestone rubble with a stone slate roof, half-hipped at the front and with a cross gable on the left. The rear section has Double Roman tiles. The front elevation has two storeys and a two-window range. A timber lintel covers the left-hand doorway, which has a boarded door. There is a 20th-century casement window on the ground floor and 19th-century casement windows on the first floor. The right return has a two-window range, a half-dormer, and a rear raking dormer. A rear entrance to No. 16A is located on the right-hand return, while No. 14’s entrance is at the rear, above the front houses and is accessed via a doorway in the left-hand return. This rear section has a half-hipped roof and 2/2-pane sash windows. The interior has not been inspected.
