Description
Latton House, formerly known as The Old Vicarage, is a vicarage that has been converted into a house, built in 1840. It features coursed limestone rubble and a slate roof. The building is three stories tall and consists of four bays by two bays, with a two-story extension on the left side that has two bays. The entrance has a glazed door set within a flat-roofed porch that has margin glazing. The first floor has sixteen-pane sash windows, while the second floor has eight-pane sash windows. The ground floor windows are late 20th-century inserts. The house has wide boxed eaves and a hipped roof, and at the rear, there is a large canted bay window. Inside, there is a contemporary staircase with a wreathed handrail and tread brackets, which has been altered to its current position. The main reception rooms feature marble fire surrounds, and there is a servants' stair in the left extension. Plans for the rebuilding of the vicarage, dated 1826-1827, by T. Angell of Highworth, are preserved in the diocesan records.
