COMPTON BASSETT COMPTON BASSETT VILLAGE Group of three monuments about 6m north of north porch of Church of St Swithin

GV II

Three chest tombs, late C18 to C19, ashlar. From south: a Maunder monument, late C18, plain with chamfered base and capstone. South inscription to Harriott Maunder, died 1772, north to Richard Maunder. b) Austin monument, early C19, neo-Grec, with ridged stepped cap, angle acroteriae with honeysuckle decoration, angle piers with incised panels and raised plaque to Thomas Austin died 1826. c) Bodman monument, early C19, with trapezoid plaque each side on horizontally fluted ground. Fluted angle piers. Moulded base and cap. Inscription to Benjamin Bodman died 1823.
