Description
Thatch is a Grade II listed house located in Compton Bassett, dating from the 17th century, and possibly earlier. It features a whitewashed chalk and timber-frame construction with a thatched roof and end stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window chalk front, complemented by low angle buttresses made of ashlar. The windows are leaded casements, with three on each side and a pair above the entrance door, which is set within an elaborate timber porch that has a stone slate roof. Inside, there are seats with carved bench-ends and twisted balusters, likely from the early 18th century. The west wall is made of chalk, while the east wall is timber-framed with a raised cruck truss and collar. The first floor features a triple casement window, and the rear wall is square-framed with painted brick infill and casement windows.
