Description
This is an early to mid-18th century house in Cheverell Magna, extended around 1800. It is constructed of Flemish brickwork with a tiled roof. The original house has two storeys and an attic, with a symmetrical plan featuring a central lobby leading to the staircase and gable stacks. A fourth bay was added to the right side around 1800. The central entrance has a half-glazed door sheltered by a flat canopy supported by shaped wooden brackets. A dentil band runs along the facade. The windows are oak-framed with paned casement glazing dating to the early 19th century; the outer bays have three-light windows, while the central window is two-light. The added bay continues the detailing of the front elevation. Lean-to outbuildings with pantiled roofs are located at both ends of the house. Inside, a room to the right of the entrance lobby features a deep chamfered ceiling beam, likely reused. There is an open fireplace with an unmoulded elm mantel beam supported by greensand piers, and an integrated oven with side seats. A spine beam with chamfers and run-out stops is also present. A bedroom above has an angle fireplace. The roof was likely rebuilt in the 19th century and includes single-tier butt purlins.
