Description
68A The Close is a 17th-century building that includes former stables from the 18th century and later alterations. It is two storeys high, constructed of red brick with some grey headers. The residential section closest to the road has been restored with new tile hanging on the first floor and features a hipped old tile roof. On the south-facing side, there are four renewed casements on the first floor, a canted bay, and a similar casement on the ground floor. The entrance has a flat hood supported by shaped brackets. The former stables at the west end of the building have irregular leaded two-light casements, one dormer window, camber-headed leaded casements on the ground floor, and tall segmental arched double coach house doors. This section also includes some reused old stonework in the walling. All the listed buildings in The Close form an outstanding group.
