Description
The College of Sarum St Michael is a pair of late 18th century houses located on The Close. They are three stories tall and constructed of red brick sitting on a projecting plinth. The buildings feature painted strings above the ground floor and first floor windows, a tasselled eaves cornice, and a hipped roof covered with old tiles. There are seven windows on the upper floors and five on the ground floor, all of which have architrave frames and reeded keystones.
The houses have two doorways: one in the left corner and another in the third bay from the right. Each doorway has a six-panel door with a panel reveal and a rectangular fanlight. The left-hand fanlight is curved and radiating with a wreath design, while the right-hand fanlight features a curved and radiating bar with bead ornamentation. The doorcases are adorned with pilasters, flat console brackets, and a moulded cornice that is broken forward over the doors.
All the listed buildings in The Close form an outstanding group.
