Description
This is a row of cottages built around 1857, situated on the south-west side of Adcroft Street. The terrace is gently sloping and consists of 12 cottages, each with two storeys and one window. The cottages are constructed from ashlar stone. They are grouped into three central pairs and two smaller groups of three, with pier strips defining these groupings. A band runs along the first-floor level, and a narrow, moulded eaves cornice tops the buildings. Numbers 18, 21, and 24 retain their original stonework, while numbers 19, 27, 28, and 29 have been cement rendered. The windows are a mix of late-glazed sash windows and later casements; numbers 27, 28 and 29 have modern casements. Ground-floor windows are topped with plain, shallow raised pediments. The doorways have bracketted cornices, and most doors have been replaced. The roofs are covered with slate and double roman tiles, and there are ridge chimneys. Numbers 1 to 13 and numbers 16 to 29 form a group.
