Description

These are a row of cottages dating to circa 1800, located on the north side of Winchester Street. The buildings, numbered 77 to 85 (odd), are constructed of painted brick, with the levels differing due to the sloping site. The roofs are covered with old tiles, with some gabled and hipped sections. Nos 77 to 79 are treated as a single unit, featuring two wide, camber-headed sash windows on the first floor and three similar windows and a two-light casement window on the ground floor. A central blind window is present on the first floor. Two plain doors are visible. Nos 81, 83 and 85 each have three small, flat-roofed dormers, as well as four two-light casement windows on the first floor. The ground floor has one small and two two-light casement windows. Plain doors are set in plain frames, with stone steps leading up to them. These cottages, along with Blechynden Almshouses, form a group.
