Description

EDINGTON - ST 95 SW 5/141 Lower Baynton Farmhouse II Farmhouse. C17, rebuilt mid C19. Some timber-framing retained to rear, remainder rebuilt in Flemish bond brick, hipped Welsh slate roof with gable end brick stacks. Two-storey, 3-window south front. Central 6-panelled door in early C20 gabled glazed porch, 16-pane sash with wedge lintel either side. First floor has three 16-pane sashes with wedge lintels. Left return has some earlier English bond brickwork, 4-panelled door and 2-light casement. Right return has single-storey lean-to extension. Rear facing farmyard has one-bay section of square-panelled timber- frame with brick nogging, possibly reset, 2-light and 3-light casements and planked door. Interior retains chamfered beams with runouts to rear C17 part, C19 fittings. One of several cheese- making farms in the Avon valley, rebuilt by the Erlestoke Estate mid C19.
