Description

The railings and gate piers at the entrance to Erlestoke House, which is now H.M. Prison, date from the early 19th century. The gate piers are made of colourwashed stone and feature paneling, a cornice, and a capping block. They are connected by low stone walls and copings that support ornamental wrought iron railings. These railings have cast iron fleur terminals on the rails and dog rails, and they sweep up to meet the piers, supported by twisted iron stanchions. This structure has group value with the lodge nearby.
