Description

Carpenter’s Cottage is a 17th-century cottage with a gable end facing the street, restored in 1982. It is timber-framed, partly board-faced, and brick, with a thatched roof. The cottage is single-storied with an attic, originally comprising three bays. A lower rear extension features a lateral stack. The timber frame sits on brick underbuilding. The original layout included a central hall with a heated inner room facing the road, and a lobby entry, which is now obscured by a link to an outbuilding containing the main door. It has timber windows. The roof is half-hipped at the front. A thatched, timber-faced link connects to a chalkstone outbuilding, which has been extended forward to create a timber garage. The interior was not inspected but may be of interest.
