Description

Bodenham House is a detached house with a rear service wing, dating from 1745, with the service wing added around 1900. The front is constructed of header bond brick, while the sides and rear are in Flemish bond, topped with a tiled roof featuring coped verges, kneelers, and gable end brick stacks. The building is designed in an L-shape and has two storeys plus an attic, with a symmetrical front that includes five windows.

The central door has six fielded panels and brass fittings, topped by a flat wooden hood supported by brackets. On either side of the door are two 12-pane flush sash windows with flat arches and keystones. A three-brick plat band runs along the first floor, which features five additional 12-pane flush sash windows, also with flat arches and keystones. The house is finished with a dentilled brick cornice.

There are two flat-roofed dormers in the attic, each containing 2-light casements. The left side of the house has a 3-light casement window with a cambered head on both the ground and first floors, along with a small casement in the attic gable. The right side has no windows but features a central projecting stack and a plat band.

At the rear, there is a central projecting stair turret that rises three storeys and is topped with a pyramidal tiled roof, featuring 20th-century casements. To the left of the turret is a large 3-light leaded casement window on the ground floor, while the first floor has a 2-light casement with a cambered head and a round-arched stair window to the right of the turret.

The two-storey service wing at the rear right has doors with round arched openings and four 12-pane sash windows on both the ground and first floors of the left return. Inside, the house features doors with fielded panels and moulded architraves, a newel staircase with turned balusters, and panelled dados in the entrance hall and sitting room. The first-floor bedroom includes a bolection-moulded fireplace with an eared surround and a moulded cornice.
