Description
Sandfield House is a villa built in 1828 and extended between 1878 and 1879. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a concrete-tile roof and ashlar stacks, designed in the Gothic style. The building has two storeys, featuring a narrow central section flanked by full-height canted bays. There is a drip course and parapet above, along with pointed-head mullion windows that have hoodmoulds. The first floor has one 2-light window at the center and three 3-light windows in the bays on each floor.
The ground floor features a projecting canted porch, dated 1828, which has a Gothic cornice and Tudor-arched openings. The porch includes double doors at the front, with small-paned fixed lights on either side, and a Tudor-arched inner door. The east end wall has similar blank 2-light windows on each floor. To the left of the main front is a matching addition from 1878-9, which has similar 3-light windows and hoodmoulds on each floor. Behind this addition are two-storey ranges dated 1879, with rainwater heads marked H.E.M. 1878, indicating the work was done for H.E. Medlicott, and a projecting bay on the east side.
