Description
No. 17 Oxford Street is a pair of houses that have been combined into one. They date from the late 18th century, with possible earlier origins, and were unified in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of roughcast limestone rubble, featuring brick gable stacks on the right-hand house. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic.
The left-hand house has a one-window range, while the larger right-hand house has a two-window range. The design is nearly symmetrical, with a round-arched doorway located slightly to the left of centre. This doorway has a raised surround, key, and imposts, along with a plate-glass fanlight that has been partially blocked by a mid-19th century window with margin panes. The windows are 2/2-pane horned sashes, and the low first-floor windows may suggest that the roof has been raised.
The lower left-hand house features a deeply-set doorway with a four-panel door and lacks a ground-floor window. It has a 2/2-pane sash window on the first floor and a gabled roof dormer with a 2/2-pane sash. The interior has not been inspected.
