Description
Latch Cottage is a house located on Oxford Street in Malmesbury, which dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with some parts rebuilt in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of squared, coursed limestone with dressings and features a large external gable stack on the right side, topped with a stone slate roof. Originally, it was divided into two separate homes, each with a two-room parallel plan, but it is now used as a single residence.
The cottage has two storeys and a one-window range. The ground-floor openings include segmental-arched heads leading to 19th-century paired central doorways, which have 20th-century glazed doors. There are outer windows and first-floor windows located beneath the eaves, featuring three-light mullion casements. The large stack has two offsets on the sides and is complemented by a 19th-century lean-to porch at the front. The cottage also plays a role in framing the view down lower Oxford Street. The interior has not been inspected.
