Description
The Old School House, located at No. 16 South Street in Warminster, is a building dating from around 1868 that originally served as an Infants' (or Ragged) School and was extended in 1878. It is designed in an 'L' plan and is a single-storey structure featuring weathered buttresses at the corners. The facade facing South Street includes a lancet triplet with recessed mullions and keyed arches above the projecting gable-ends. To the left of the left wing, there is a projecting gabled porch with a pointed doorway and a pair of lancet windows that also have recessed mullions. The roof is tiled, adorned with decorative bands and a crested ridge.
The return side facing Cannymore Road has three pairs of lancet windows with recessed mullions. There is a slightly recessed schoolmaster's house that is 1.5 storeys high, featuring two half dormers and gabled paired lancets with recessed mullions. A similar window is located on the ground floor to the right. All windows are fitted with glazing bar casements. To the left, there is a pointed doorway with a beaded door and another similar window nearby. Additionally, there is a cast iron street sign dating from 1834 located on Cannymore Road, indicating No. 66 Deverill Road.
