Description

The converted barn range to the west of Sheldon Manor dates back to 1723, with alterations made in 1911 and the north end rebuilt as a cottage in 1968. The structure is built of rubble stone and features stone-tiled roofs. The south end barn, now functioning as a tea shop, has a projecting west side with a half-hipped cart entry, which has been infilled. The west side has been altered with various stable openings, while the east side has a blocked plain cart entry and a reused early 18th-century moulded doorcase with a 9-panel door that was taken from a demolished house at Allington Bar.

The second barn, which is stepped up, has a half-hipped west cart entry and was converted into two cottages around 1911. This section includes ridge stacks, a three-window range, and a two-storey house to the right of the cart entry, with windows in the cart entry, a lean-to porch, and a dormer to the left. The rear wall features two narrow lights, a reused 9-panel door, and a two-light mullion window with a hood.

The north end, rebuilt in 1968 by O. Brakspear, includes two dormer gables on each side, mullion windows with king-mullions, and two segment-headed glazing bar windows on the ground floor of the west side. Running east and enclosing the north side of Sheldon Manor's garden, there is a single-storey range with four open bays and an enclosed stone section that has a reused early 19th-century Gothic panelled door. The east gable is hipped, and the stone section features a thick masonry west wall, which is part of a pre-17th-century building. Additionally, a 20th-century hipped roof summerhouse has been added at the west end; it was originally open to the south but is now glazed.
