Description

STOURTON WITH GASPER STOURHEAD GARDENS ST 73 SE (east side) 6/148 The Paradise Well 6.1.66 GV I Urn over spring head. Probably late C18. Limestone square plinth and base to circular wide-bodied urn with fluting and scrolled frieze. Stands on a brick spring head with 2 arched openings. Urn shown on an 1813 painting by F. Nicholson, but on the other side of the path; it was moved to its present site by Henry Hoare, 6th Baronet. (K. Woodbridge, The Stourhead Landscape, 1982)
