Description
The Croft is a house built in the early 19th century, attributed to the architect Decimus Burton, with an extension added in 1918 by Rudman. The building is constructed of squared, coursed limestone, featuring ashlar ridge stacks and a slate hipped roof, reflecting a late Georgian style. It has a double-depth plan, two storeys, and a three-window range. The entrance front showcases a central ashlar portico with a round-arched doorway, a bracketed hood, a radial fanlight, a panelled door, and a wrought-iron boot scraper. The garden front has a central section that is set forward, featuring a wide full-height bow with three French windows, four-pane casements on the first floor, 4/4-pane sash windows on the right-hand side, and a left-hand ashlar parapeted extension with three French windows that include margin panes. Inside, the house boasts decorated cornices, original fireplaces, and a cantilevered stone open-well staircase with a wrought-iron balustrade.
