Description
Prospect House is a house dated 1866, designed by Thomas Gough. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features gable stacks with a slate hipped roof, reflecting a late Georgian style. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range. It is double-fronted, showcasing pilasters, a round-arched doorway with a plate-glass fanlight and a four-panel door, as well as a round-arched window above with 6/6-pane sash windows.
Inside, the house includes a through-passage, a dogleg stair with stick balusters and column newels, panelled shutters, and inserted stone fireplaces. Historically, it was built by Thomas Gough, who also constructed the adjacent Fairfield House (No.173) in 1870 to the left and No.177 to the right, which is not included in this listing. Prospect House is noted for its well-composed, albeit anachronistic, late Georgian design.
