GV II

House. Dated 1866 by owner. By Thomas Gough. Limestone ashlar with gable stacks and slate hipped roof. Late Georgian style. Double-depth plan. 2 storeys; 3-window range. Double-fronted with pilasters, a round-arched doorway, plate-glass fanlight and 4-panel door; round-arched window above; 6/6-pane sashes. INTERIOR: details include a through-passage, dogleg stair with stick balusters and column newels, panelled shutters, inserted stone fireplaces. HISTORICAL NOTE: built by Thomas Gough, who also built No.173 Fairfield House (1870) attached to the left, and No.177 to the right (not included). A well-composed if anachronistic late Georgian design.
