Description
This is a late 18th-century brick building, originally comprising numbers 17 to 21 in a row. It continues the style of the adjacent buildings at numbers 14 and 16. The building is three storeys high and constructed of red brick, with stone quoins to the left of number 18. The upper floors originally contained "weavers' windows," which are casement windows designed for the needs of weavers. The second floor originally had three-light casement windows, though the widths of these have been narrowed in numbers 18 and 19. Numbers 18 and 19 have modern three-light casement windows on the first floor, while the remaining buildings have two-light casements, with number 20 retaining original glazing bars. Number 17 has modern casements on the ground floor but retains its original six-panel door. Number 18 has a modern entrance door and a large window. Number 19 has a 20th-century shop front with a central entrance. Number 20 retains a three-light casement window with stone mullions on the ground floor. Number 21 has a mid-to-late 19th-century shop front, altered and retaining only fluted pilasters. The roof is covered with double Roman tiles and has common ridge and brick ridge chimneys. Two-storey lean-to extensions have been added to the rear of the building. Numbers 14 to 26 form a group.
