Description
The tea house in the gardens of Heale House is a 19th-century structure, built around 1900. It is made of timber and features a thatched roof. This pavilion was constructed in Japan by Japanese workmen and is positioned over a branch of the River Avon, supported by rough-cut stone stanchions that create a rippling effect on the water. The building has a round pole frame, traditionally assembled, which forms an 8-tatami tea room and a 2-tatami waiting area. The walls are framed with softwood and covered with rice paper, featuring sliding partitions and openings. There is a stove raised in the corner.
