Description
The stables and carriage houses at Heale House date from the 18th century and were altered in the late 19th to early 20th century. They are constructed of flint with brick dressings and some brick lacings, topped with a tiled roof. The building is single storey with attics and features three main bays. The central bay has a carriageway through a gabled and half-hipped section, flanked by stable wings that were extended forward in the 19th century and were undergoing alterations at the time of the survey in June 1987.
The central arch is supported by brick pilasters, with an arch and a brick dentilled string that forms a gable, which is cut down by a pitching door above. The outer bays have hipped dormers. The extensions and yard walls feature brick dentilled eaves, and the walls have brick dentilled coping. The axial gate piers are topped with urn finials, and there are ball finials on the corners. Additionally, there is a 3.5-meter high cob wall extending from the gable wall of the stables to the south, which includes a central passageway.
